The Hopi people would send their pregnant women to this cave to give birth. When you actually hike the steep incline at the end, you may question why they would expect that of women about to give birth. I have two thoughts for this occurrence. First, the physicality of this climb may have helped induce labor. The second thought, and know that I’m no expert of the ancient worlds. Perhaps the screams of child labor, echoing across the land, was a primitive form of a birth announcement. It would signal to the neighboring families that a new member is joining the community.
